MORE THAN AN EVENING OF FOOD, BEER & MUSIC
Barley & Smoke is about seeing businesses come together to support kids and families affected by childhood cancer.
Kids Cancer Care is a charitable organization that helps families fighting childhood cancer in Alberta. We all have friends, family or loved ones who have been impacted by cancer and all of us, at one time or another, have been pulled into its devastating wake. Cancer is awful, but there is nothing more unfair than a cancer diagnosis of a child.
At Camp Kindle, magic happens: children fighting cancer get to simply be children again. The extraordinary environment gives young Albertans an escape from hospital visits and treatments, immersing them in outdoor adventures, friendship, and pure joy – all within a safe, nurturing space.
Every dollar raised at Barley & Smoke directly helps expand Camp Kindle's life-changing programs, ensuring more brave kids can experience this transformative escape and create lasting memories beyond their cancer journey.

When Adam was 11, he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2005. Adam spent two months in the hospital and having to stay at home for the rest of the school year made it really hard to keep up with schoolwork. When he finally returned to school it took some time for him to feel like he belonged.
2024 - ADAM
2023 - SHAAN
Speaking on behalf of his sister Sofia, Shaan shares her story from a brother's perspective. Cancer really does affect the whole family, especially when his younger sister is diagnosed at age 5.

When Amanda was two, she was diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) and AML (acute myeloid leukemia). She spent the next five months in the hospital, undergoing total body irradiation and a bone marrow transplant. A couple of years later, in 2008, Amanda was ready to start pre-school when she relapsed. This time, she had only a 30 per cent chance of survival.
